This book comprises of 8 chapters and 5 appendices. It begins with the first chapter of Introduction wherein the authors discuss the basic communication problem and related aspects along with notation, conventions and useful facts used in the book. The second chapter discusses Factor Graphs and the problem of how one can efficiently compute marginals of multivariate functions. Subsequent chapters deal with Binary Erasure Channel, Binary Memoriless Symmetric Channels, General Channel, Turbo Codes, General Ensembles, Expander Codes and Flipping Algorithm. The appendices present a good deal of study of various concepts like `encoding low-density parity-check codes', Efficient implementation of Density Evolution, concentration inequalities, Formal power sums, Convexity, Degradation and Stability. The book presents the state-of-the-art in iterative coding, and will certainly be useful to researchers and practitioners who are willing to design or choose a coding system for a new communication system or to improve an existing system.
