The book is the second edition of a one-semester course on discrete dynamical systems [1st ed. in (1994; Zbl 0797.58001)]. The main changes of the second edition are to introduce the notion of chaos for real functions (Chapter 8) before the symbolic dynamics, and metric spaces transferred into Chapter 11. Consequently, in Chapters 8, 9, 10 and 11 (the Logistic function, parts I, II, III and IV) had to be completely revised. A new simpler proof of the special case of Sharkovskij's theorem is given (Chapter 5). Some new exercises have been added and more difficult ones have been equipped with hints. (Zentralblatt)
