This is an unaltered reprint of the second edition (1961; Zbl 0105.147). A detailed review was given for the first edition (1950; Zbl 0041.486). Though several textbooks on classical differential geometry have been published meanwhile, the value of this book has remained unchanged. The standard material of a course in classical differential geometry is complemented by a rich collection of examples and exercises. Careful references are given to the historical background. The low price of the paperback edition is an additional attraction to students interested in differential geometry. (Zentralblatt)
