This is an introduction to vector space theory for beginning students. The plane is first studied in some detail, with vector spaces in general later. Linear independence, bases, dimension, and linear transformations are all present, but the book does not go as far as determining canonical forms of linear transformations (except in the simplest cases). The style is somewhat "Bourbakian'', with a level of abstraction perhaps above that encountered in beginning texts for United States students. (MathSciNet)
