This most excellent book presents modern multiplicative analytic number theory to students having essentially no background on the subject. The aim – and the success – is to bring them to get a feel for sieve theory, for the use of bilinear forms in prime number theory and for automorphic forms. The journey starts with usual Dirichlet series, less usual smoothing processes, continues with Dirichlet characters, functional equation for Dirichlet L-series, to reach very quickly the prime number theorem in arithmetic progressions.
