Bibliogr. p. [323]-326. Index

The representation theory of p-adic reductive groups is presented in this work following J. Bernstein's ideas. The first four chapters (over 100 pages) give an elaborate and self-contained exposition of the general theory of smooth complex representations of totally disconnected locally compact groups. In a short chapter results on the structure of p-adic reductive groups are formulated, mostly without proofs, with the advice to study some examples of classical groups (the book contains no examples). In the last half of the book the representation theory of p-adic reductive groups is developed, with main results the Bernstein decomposition of the category of smooth representations of such a group and the Langlands classification of the irreducible representations.
