This book is probably not one for casual reading or easy reference, except for the expert in the area, as most of the results and their proofs are highly technical, with much notation. A seven page listing of notation at the end of the book is very useful in keeping track of the notation. Following a first chapter that is a recap of basic potential theory and other fundamental topics to be used later, the book proceeds to give substantial results on polynomial approximation, using tools from many aspects of analysis. The chapter headings, given below, indicate the nature of some of the kinds of results given. For each chapter, the authors devote an introductory section giving an overview of the results to be presented, as well as a final section containing historical comments. In addition, there are four almost chapter-length appendices, and a bibliography consisting of 184 works. Although the results contained in the book are due to many different authors, many of the more recent results and proofs, together with the order of presentation, are due to the authors.
