From the preface: "In this volume we present the proceedings of the CIME session `Buildings and the geometry of diagrams' which was held at Como from August 26 to September 4, 1984. The aim of the session was to describe some of the principal aspects of a field of geometry which is worthy of consideration both for its intrinsic interest, and for its applications to the theory of groups.''
