The subject matter of the book is the topology of three-dimensional manifolds, with an emphasis on algorithmic problems. Let us note that algorithmic problems are certainly among the most important research problems in the field of low-dimensional topology. The book is an excellent introduction to the subject, with all the background material described in a very attractive manner. At the same time, the book gives very interesting accounts of several difficult results in the area, introducing famous and important research problems.
