... The stated goal of Greaves' book is "to present a self-contained account of the `small' sieve method … in a form that will be suitable for university graduates making their first acquaintance with the subject, leading them towards the frontiers of modern researches and unsolved problems in the subject area.'' The book is very carefully written, but the complexity of the subject makes for a hard read. This is a research monograph most suitable for an advanced class or for those who already have had some introduction to the subject. (MSN)
