Bibliogr. p. 211-213. Index

This is a quick introduction to several topics concerned with differential manifolds, a suitable guide for use by graduate students of physics or mathematics. Topics and results that became essential for modern geometry and topology and applications in physics during the last 4 or 3 decades are selected. The presentation supports understanding of basic geometric achievements. Several results and facts whose proofs are technically difficult such as for instance embedding theorems of H. Whitney in chapter 1 or Hopfs’s theorem on cohomology of Lie groups are outlined, mentioned without proof. Simpler special cases are proved. Each of the 9 chapters is completed with a number of exercises, whose solutions are given at the end of the book. (zbMath)
