This book is an introduction to fixed points, aimed at high school students and freshmen college students that are interested in mathematics. Starting practically from the very beginning (the author even introduces such notions as compactness) the author moves to Brouwer fixed point theorems: that any mapping of a square into itself has a fixed point and that every continuous mapping of a 2-sphere into itself, whose degree is not equal to -1, has a fixed point. These results are given with complete proofs. The author chooses combinatorial proofs (based on Sperner's lemma). Lots of exercises (their solutions are given at the end of the book) help the reader to understand better the ideas and methods. (Zentralblatt)
