This book is a comprehensive introduction to holomorphic dynamics, that is the dynamics induced by iteration of various holomorphic maps of one or several complex variables. This has been the focus of much attention in recent years, and the authors give a nearly up-to-date coverage of the modern theory. They cover rational and entire functions of one complex variable, Kleinian groups and polynomial automorphisms of several complex variables such as complex Hénon maps, but no transcendental meromorphic functions. The book is a self-contained introduction to this area. (Zentralblatt)
